Located at the picturesque site near Foy's Lake, the USTC has opened up a new horizon for the quality medical, pharmaceutical, business and modern technology education in the country. The primary objective of establishing USTC is to improve the quality and standard of education in science and technology with special emphasis on medical, pharmaceutical and social science. It also aims at developing human resources at home and in the developing countries with special emphasis on the South Asia.

 
   
BACKGROUND  

The University of Science & Technology Chittagong (USTC) was established as a Private University soon after the Private University Act 1992 came into force. National Professor N. Islam was appointed as the President of the USTC by the Chancellor of the University and President of the People's Republic of

 
   
   
   

Bangladesh.  On 18 January 2000 the Chancellor of the University appointed National Professor N. Islam as Vice Chancellor of USTC for four years with retrospective effect from 13 May 1997.

 
NATIONAL PROF. N. ISLAM
 

National Prof. N. Islam is the philosopher and architect of the USTC. It is his dream which came true after years of labours and cooperation from individuals and organizations. Prof. N. Islam took personal interest in developing the art and science of Family Medicine in Bangladesh.

   
FACULTIES AND COURSES  
USTC is now operating through four faculties which are,
  • Faculty of Medicine

  • Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Science

  • Faculty of Business Administration

  • Faculty of Computer Science, Engineering and Technology.

INSTITUTES AND COURSES
USTC has two Institutes in Dhaka which are :  
  • Bangladesh Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine & Research (BIUMR)

  • Bangladesh Institute of Family Medicine & Research (BIFMR).

At present BIUMR is offering "Diploma in Medical Ultrasound Diagnosis (DMUD)," and BIFMR is offering "Family Medicine Diploma (FMD)".

STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

USTC began its academic journey as Institute of Applied Health Science with 42 students, 11 teachers including two professors and nine lecturers.

Now the number of students of USTC is more than 1300 of which more than one third are from abroad including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Palestine, Jordan, KSE, USA, Malaysia, Sudan, Norway, etc.

The number of full-time teachers is now 140. USTC believes in quality education for which the first step is to procure good teachers. USTC procured their teaching staff on the basis of academic background, social activity and relationship, intelligence and smartness.

USTC is approved by the Government of Bangladesh. It is also recognized by

  • World Health Organization

  • General Medical Council of Great Britain

  • Ireland Medical Council

  • Nepal Medical Council

  • Sri Lanka Medical Council

  • USTC is a full Member of the International Network of Community-Oriented Health Science, Maastricht, the Netherlands.
